Old Microphones?

I have a VH1 music video of Jefferson Airplan singing "Somebody to Love" and it looks as though Grace is singing through a male end of an electrical plug.

Is that what was used for old-style microphones? If not...wtf?

There have been some pretty whacky looking microphones over the years. Studio microphones look nothing like what you see at concerts and on MTV.

Send a message via Yahoo to Brainchild
Here is a Google Image Search maybe you can find what you're looking for there.
