I love mine - but it
did take a while to get it working properly, even with pro installation.
Initially, I bought one just for the starter, like you want. Luckily, i had it done at a decent place that stands behind it, because it was a real problem. Worked good sometimes, other times not at all, other times it'd start spontaniously. After several attempts to get it right (over 6 months), we finally gave up & changed it to a premium system, which has worked great for well over a year now.
Main problem with the first one was that it's electronics simply wouldn't interact properly with the factory equipment.
My advice - stay away from the cheapies or DIY kits. Have a quality unit installed with a warranty. Expect to pay around $300 for a good middle-of the road unit w/o too many "bells & whistles".
Epi - you'd really like the programmable ones that start it every X hours so that it
never gets really cold!
