They don't make the knives, I'm sure...it's contracted out to some lesser company who stamps "Porsche" on them, suddenly making them a lot more $$$ than they really are worth

Just a guess, maybe I'm wrong, but that is typically the way it works.

Yes it appears they have to keep their billion dollar design team busy since they only have 3 base cars to redesign upon---
They design other unique "items" for enthusiasts and farm the manufacturing out---
