Gaming War Foes Banned from Iraq Contracts

Toronto Star Article

Seems like the best way to boost strained relations, doesn't it?

This is a can of worms brandon, but you opened it so here is what my thoughts are on the issue.

Where were Canada and France when troops were needed over there? Now that the fighting is done they want in on the rebuilding?

They are getting what they deserve. Those countries didn't step up to the plate when Sadam was imprisoning children and torturing women. I don't see them wanting to help uncover the mass graves, but if there is a buck to be made they are the first to complain that things aren't fair.

I hope things are fixed between these nations but France, Germany, and Canada stood by while a dictator committed horrible atrocities to his own people. There has to some price to pay.

Yeah! Why didn't Nokia send it's engineers to fight in iraq!!!!1 YEAH!!

Come on, it's companies they're banning, not the governments. And, companies had nothing to do with the decision whether to be part of the coalition or not.

Companies give returns to their home nation. Those returns should probably go to those people with their necks on the line.

Lets just say for arguments sake that Iraq was guilty on all charges, Had a plan to sell nukes to alqaeda in may 03... And france chose to avoid the conflict for political motives. Should france then be given a share of the jobs, income, and the likes?

In fact had france and Germany had its way their would be no contracts.

So France and Germany got their way.

As a matter of fact, they will be allowed to be subcontractors. So this is, as Senator Joseph Biden points out, a "totally gratuitous slap" that "does nothing to protect our security interests and everything to alienate countries we need with us in Iraq."

Senator Joseph Biden makes a very good point, but lets face it:

America's idea of Foreign policy is based on being the aggressor, and then claiming it is in the world's interest. It is hardly unexpected that they will then help ensure American companies have less competition to profit from their actions, is it?

So you mean if we do not do this these countries will give up treasure and man power to assist in keeping the peace?
