Senator Paul Simon dies after surgery

Simon died today after heart surgery yesterday.

Simon was a bespectacled, slightly rumpled man with a strong reputation for honesty, a politician who began disclosing his personal finances in the 1950s. He had the sober, straight-laced bearing of a Sunday school teacher and wrote 13 books.

That probably makes him the second honest politician to come from IL. Some people may not have liked his pollicies, but they could never argue his honesty.

I voted for him, and think he would have made a great President.

May he rest in peace.

I did not vote for him, but from my understanding, he was one of the few men in Washington to understand the idea of being a servant / representative of the people. I am not from Illinois, so I never had the opportunity to vote for him, but I likely would've. I respected him--and while he's not the only politician I respect, he IS in short company.

I told my best friend that Paul Simon died this day and he 'freaked out', much to my amasement. I never really thought he was politically oriented! Five minutes later it dawned on me that my buddy was going nuts over 'Simon & Garfunkle', duh!

Sen. Paul Simon will go down in Illinois history on the level with Lincoln, Douglas, Dirkson, etc. He was a great Illinoian May God bless his spirit!
