Gore to endorse Dean

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/...ean/index.html

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Vice President Al Gore will endorse former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean for the party's 2004 presidential nomination, Democratic sources said Monday.

This is a big boast to the Dean campaign and adds more credibility.

Lieberman didn't look happy on the news. It also may mean that Lieberman's funds will dry up as he may not be considered viable. After NH and Iowa, look for only 3 in the Dem race.

This puts to bed any concerns that Dean isn't a centrist and able a fringe candidate.

Lieberman is basically a Republican anyway. He's well to the right of every other Democratic candidate, he's even more sanctimonious than Tipper Gore, shorter than Howard Dean, less funny than Al Sharpton, and more Jewish than John Kerry and Wesley Clark combined. (Hard to understand why a Harvard man like Gore would have chosen a Yalie like Lieberman in the first place. )

I think it had something to do with getting the Jewish vote in south Florida.

I think it is because he didn't want to look too liberal.

Bill, who cares if the Clinton's are pissed? They're supporting Clark who's campaign is going nowhere. The best Clark could do is get on the VP ticket.

Boast - To glorify oneself in speech; talk in a self-admiring way.

Sounds about right.

I think the Clinton's care.

The last thing they want is to see a democrat win the election in '04.

Setting up Hillary for '08 when she won't have to run against an incumbent republican.

Dean wins the nomination and their "behind the scenes" control of the party is in jeopardy.

Dean wins the election and and their control of the party, in the words of Ahhhnold, is "Hasta la vista baby."

Gore and the Clinton's have, shall we say, a slightly less than cordial relationship.

Gore has the opportunity here to screw (figuratively speaking of course) Hillary.

They are not happy over the power loss that may be ensuing and may in the end feel compelled to jump in at the convention in order to take what they feel could be their only chance to get Hillary into the White House.

Waiting until the 2012 election is not in the cards for her. She'll be going on 66 at that time.

If Gore really wants to help Dean, he'll keep a low profile.
