Most Drugs Don't Work for Most People

What's interesting here is the source:a senior executive with GlaxoSmithKline.

(Some of this is no surprise: That most drugs for Alzheimer's and for cancer are ineffective for most patients conforms to our expectation that most people with Alzheimers don't benefit from any drug, and that cancer chemotherapy is often unsuccessful as well as being an awful experience.)

Take a look at any double-blinded, placebo-controlled study sometime and the therapeutic response reported by people on placebo will amaze you.

Interesting but not related to the drug treatment theme of this thread, Epi.

It is surprising how many different responses to the same drug can be seen. Some of that is due to the lack of specific targets for the drugs to be delivered to - aim at nothing in particular, and you'll often hit it.

That's why I like research which tries to discover better ways of delivering drugs to specific targets - like some of find-a-drug's projects, for example.

If we can get the drugs delivered directly to the target cells it will make a lot of difference about how many ppl actually benefit from the drugs.

Cheers
Mick
