Snow blower advice

OK, here in NY we are getting blizzards the last few years.

Before this, we used to get 2-4 inch snows that my Toro electric snow blower had no problem with. These blizzards overwhelm the electric. So, I'm considering getting a gas- self-propelled model. But which one? Does anyone have any ideas?

I need to service about 200 ft. of sidewalk plus a double driveway that is 50 ft long.

Can't help you with your blower selection. I had a toro self propeled model with 5hp motor. But for the kind of snow you were talking about. It would have clogged up as well. If I am not mistaken you had a Wet snow mix from 8 to 24 inches deep. packing snow like that clogged the hell out of the best one I ever had.

It was a little wet. The electric didn't clog. I just couldn't handle the depth and I really had to push.

We call those " full width" snowblowers here in Minnesota...you can figure out the rest for yourself

MTA, I feel your pain, but on a smaller scale. I've got an electric "power shovel", which is basically the same as what you are talking about, but only about a foot wide, and it can't handle much more than about 3" of snow with some wetness to it. Plow truck comes by and out comes the shovel(s)

Something of that magnitude is gonna run you close to a Grand or better.

Erp! Just noticed the Duallies...add another $500 at least...that suckers gotta be at least 12hp. Probably comes with hand warmers!

We have a 5hp 2-stage self propelled MTD snowblower powered by a Tecumseh engine. It's unstoppable, even in 4' of snow. It has a 115vac electric start but we never use it since it starts so easily by hand. Fat pneumatic tires and 5HP gets the job done before you know it. Ours cost us around $500usd

Even the smallest Troy Bilt Two-Stage Snowthrower would be fine for me. The one above looks like the Polar Blast 10530 ($1599). That would be over-kill for my relatively small plot. Besides, I wouldn't even be able to use it on my steps.

Solid Snake, is MTD a brand name? $500 would be great for what you describe.
