limited info for whois query?

Is anyone her familiar with ICANN regulations and limiting the amount of info that shows up in a WHOIS query?

I know that some registrars offer this feature.

Is it in line with ICANN regulations?

Thanks!

It is possible but against the "rules". I will have to find the link, but I believe they say that the information must be publicly available and correct.

The company I get my domains from sent me mail the other day asking me to review the whois info, here is what it said:

Quote:
As the registrar of your domain, we are required by ICANN to send you this message once a year, and help you keep the contact data associated with your domain registration up-to-date.
I will poke around at ICANN.

Found it: http://www.icann.org/registrars/wdrp.htm

At least annually, a registrar must present to the registrant the current Whois information, and remind the registrant that provision of false Whois information can be grounds for cancellation of their domain name registration. Registrants must review their Whois data, and make any corrections.

If you're asking about the details of registrant info made public:

Quote:
When you do a 'Whois' search it is important to pay attention to where you are searching for the information. A registrar is a company licensed through ICANN (www.Icann.org) to record domain registrations on behalf of a customer. Network Solutions, Tucows, and Register are some of our competitors. If you do a 'Whois' query from one of their servers, they are only required to tell you the name of the registrar through which the domain was acquired. They are not required to tell you the registrant of the domain.

The assumption is that if a person knows the name of the registrar, the rest is easy to find out by going to the registrar's site and doing a search there. To perform a search using our server, go to WhoIs and type in your domain. When you do a search on your domain, you receive a message stating that the domain is already taken. You would then click on more information and see that you are the registrant.
Also, note that some registrars now offer privacy or "unlisted" options with proxy domain services.

Thanks to the both of you. I emailed my registrar and asked them if they have a privacy feature, they dont. So i claimed to be receiving spam by snail mail and asked whether they could remove my home address from the info, they did so. Accodring to what they told me, an email add and name are the minimum requirements necessary.
