Sysopt censored me!!!!

Hi,

Do you believe this petty behaviour?

I was looking on Sysopt last night and came accross a question I knew that
I could offer some advice to.

I posted my reply which included a link to something I had seen on this board. I looked this morning to see if the guy had sorted his problems and found that the link and its explanation had been removed.

I have reposted explaining my dissatisfaction which probably means I will now be deleted myself.

Cheers

they are afraid, i would say at least 70% of their useful members
have come over here

if any more of their members see that people have freedom of speach over here, no uncalled for message edits, the right to their own opinions, ect.

they may leave as well

I agree it's bad taste to not allow links to actual INFORMATION when it's listed on other tech forums. but that is their choice I for one will not be c&p'ing information. cause many times there is more than a single post in a thread that have answers to problems and it is much easier to list a link to the infomation where ever it maybe listed.

Well, NOW I'm involved.

Remember we MUST that on Private Property of a Large Company the thing "Freedom of Speech" is NOT US Law

This also goes for private forums.

I posted this query(my 1st post since D-Day)

"Hello Steve, nice to see ya again.

I'm a bit fuzzy on this thing;

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is NOT ok to post links to other tech support forums
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since 1998 we've been linking to other technical sites. Is this a "new" regulation or perhaps an old one that was never enforced.

Thanks
DrVette"

We'll see what upper management has to allow on this question.

The really bad thing is appearantly Steven R. Jones has never looked at copyright law. If you are simply copying information one forum without crediting the author or the forum, that is outright plagerism. For further information, please follow the link before.

while i will not question what their moderators or steve jones choose to do, i find it silly that they would actually enforce a rule like that. i mean, this wasn't like nodnerb was trying to start trouble, he was just trying to provide help for someone who asked for it. i for one boo this. i think that steve jones should lighten some of his restrictions and be a bit more tolerable.

doc, i wouldn't hold my breath on an answer. knowing how their management has reacted in the past over some issues, i am pretty confident that steve r jones will simply say it was his decision and then hide behind his aup, which seems to be his blanket answer for everything.

It is ofcourse not nice what is happening over there, but it seems that a lotta people keep forgetting 1 MAJOR IMPORTANT thing.

WE are over here, at techIMO, so why make such a fuss about what is happening over there?? All we can do about it, is give an opinion and move on, so it doesn't really help much.

My suggestion would be just to let them run their site like they feel fit, and keep posting if you want to.
And if they keep on censoring stuff like that, people will find their way to TechIMO soon enough.

LET IT BE!!

Ultima

btw, I saw this posted over there, which prolly would only go for the old mods and admins.

But that is the last word I am gonna spend on this subject.
