Nighttime light sensitivity...

Anyone else have problems with this? If my room is not as dark as a cave I can't go to sleep. The slightest bit of light will keep me awake. Even the little bit of light seeping past the book cover hanging over my VCR keeps me up. I have a heavy fleece blanket I hang over the window, but with a clear sky and full moon, the light seeping past the sides keeps me up. If there is a light outside my room I have to put something on the floor to keep the light from coming under the door.

Not having natural light in the morning though makes it hard for me to get into a normal sleep cycle sometimes. I am working on some automated window blackout blinds that are timer operated to slowly open several minutes before my alarm typically goes off to aid me with this malady. Need to figure out the least expensive way of rigging something to act as a timer that can be set to operate differently on different days i.e. the weekend... that is another post though.

I think part of the problem is that my room growing up was in the basement so it was typical for it to be very dark as I only had a small overgrown window at ground level. One of the other things I have noticed was that I have supreme night vision after I have laid there being bothered by the lights... I can see everything with just the faintest sliver of light.

Ah well... was just wondering if anyone else dealt with this and how they cope.

My wife is like that. And our bedroom has a wall full of windows facing east. Bigtime morning sun. We had to buy heavy drapes with even heavier liners. And even then light would seep in. I had to tack the ends of the drapes to the window frame.

Luckily she doesn't have the internal clock issues with the lack of light. Plus we never really succeeded in keeping all the light out, so there's still a bit to wake up to.
