trepanation

Trepanation is apparently a historic practice of cutting a hole in the skull which supposedly has medical benefits.

scares me. be sure to watch the movie. may need broadband for this site.

To quote the Band Cracker "what the world needs now, is another folk singer, like i need a hole in my head"

Needs a definitive risk/benefit analysis. I can think of several obvious risks for this procedure which are by no means minor.

But what benefits are there? Apart from the psychological well being thing.

I made a hole in my skull when I was a kid. Ran headfirst into an old washing machine which had a protruding nut. So, is that classified as a traumatic trepan or what?

Cheers
Mick

What a bunch of crap!

The people that are delusionary enough to perform it on themselves, well, so be it. But the people behind that web page and pushing the idea need to be put in jail. And if they are profiting from it in any way shape or form then they need to be killed.

There is an accepted medical procedure called Burr Holes, which involes drilling holes in the skull. I would say elective Burr Holes would not be considered by accredited medical practitioners.

Apart from Emergency trauma use, Burr Holes are only used by craniofacial or neuro surgeons, AFAIK.

Cheers
