First day...

... on day shift *yawn*
I've been working nights (4pm to midnight) since shortly after 9/11/01...

Today I started working what we call 2nd shift here. 6am to 3pm... UGH! lol

I tried last week while on vacation to alter my sleep schedule a bit.. it helped a LITTLE

Trying to change from going to bed at 4am, to now waking up at 4am!!

It will be nice to have the capability to work with people again since night shift there's nobody else from my group on shift, only the lower tiers of support (of 4).
Hoping to be able to work with others and learn a bit more

I got some melatonin I'll see if that helps, but afraid of not being able to wake up in the morning

I rode metro in (subway for DC) to lessen the chance of me falling asleep at the wheel on the way home

should be interesting to say the least!
wish me luck

You don't need luck. You need copious amounts of caffeine. And pop tarts.

Although riding the metro around might require some good fortune.

should be easy if I am understanding the times right. Sleeping in the day isnt natural, lol. I think you'll adjust quickly and find you are more healthy/happy overall. I was on 3rd shift (midnight to 8) for a few years...I NEVER adjusted to that sleep schedule, ever....I would get off work, sleep for maybe 3 hrs, wake up, go play golf...come home, mess around, sleep again from say 8-1130pm..go to work.

Soon as I got off of that I felt great

actually I slept very well on nights
I crashed around 4, woke up around noon no problems

Its very easy for me to stay up late.. waking up early is ALWAYS a drag for me

Before this when I was working days 8am-4pm in a different company, I was always falling asleep on the drive home
I worked nights, and I was wide awake all the way home no problems
Hence taking the train

Yes buy stock in the pop tart makers now, cause I will be buying a fair share of them!!

Metro riding is subsidized so not AS expensive if I remember right

I've had all those shifts on two jobs. One working at a steel plant and as a security guard. Gets pretty rough when you share a pad with two friends. They like to tease me when I sleep days.

Hey, we might be able to do some online gaming once in a while now, V. Of course I'll have to buy CoD or you'll have to be MoH, but...

Heh heh heh.

I went through the same thing, vass. I used to work the 2PM to midnight shift and then switched to the 6AM to 4PM shift. I live an hour away, so I had to get up at 4AM every morning, too. Plus I had to do it without waking up my wife. So I got one of these. It works great. No way to sleep through it, yet it's silent. I highly recommend it.

Still, I never got used to the lack of sleep. I couldn't go to sleep early without waking up in the middle of the night, so I usually went to sleep around 10:30 or so and got 5 or 6 hours of sleep each night. By my third day I was a zombie.

Now I've just gone back to a 8 to 4, 5 days per week job. Much better. It means one more day of work per week, but I'm not a zombie and the days go by quicker.

Send a message via AIM to nunyadam
I will be going back to dayshift somewhere around Febuary. (They just have to hire and train my replacement for the evening shift first.)
