Anyone know anything about Home Theater Systems

My budget is around $500. But if I do find something way better for a little more I'll pay that little more. So far I have these two in mind.

I might also check out cheaper stores then BB once I pick the one I want.

You bet! I know that I want one
and my wife doesn't

Seriously, I'm going to check out DLP (Digital Light Processing) projection sets. I've read they're better than LCD.

Anybody have one of these?

Do you have a newer TV with an S-component jack for the DVD player?

I'm going to buy a TV at the same time. I haven't really decided which one yet.

Plasma, LCD or conventional tube styles don't matter THAT much right now(resolution/sharpness/quality not-withstanding of course). TV's are migrating to large monitors now.

Prerequisites:
Go with widescreen, multiple source input jacks, PC/Mac monitor capability and HDTV-ready(with built-in converter, not just "compatible" where you will have to rent a box from your cable provider) if you can afford it now. You'll be thankful soon when TV/ Interactive Web-access merges.

DLPs are good and are generally better than LCDs. Make sure you can see the image before you buy though, I have seen quite a bit of disparity in the truesness of color on DLPs. I have an LCD projector and the only "downside" is the screen door effect from the pixels. Of course I can only seen that when I walk up to the wall, but with a 75" image, I really do not like being within 6 ft of the screen.

The one thing that concerned me about DLPs is there are ton of minute moving mirrors, I would hate to see what would happen if there was a mechanical failure.

My setup:

Philips 55" HDTV w/ PiP
Zenith HDTV STB - HDV420
Toshiba SD4900 Progressive Scan DVD /MP3 / CDR,CDRW player
Sony DE-685 Receiver
Polk CSi 30 - Center Speaker
Pioneer - S-H 453 F-K - Floor standing speakers
RCA - 60W 8" Powered Sub-woofer
JBL N24 Surrounds

Don't care much for the "Home Theater" Kits. Your best bet is to find what pleases you individually.

As for a TV, can't go wrong with this one.

I tend to prefer the Philips of the two. If you are willing to put out a bit more cash, you can build a nice system:

JVC RX-8030 $285

JVC XVS600BK $60

Yamaha 6.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System with 100W Powered Subwoofer $199

It is only $44 more without tax and shipping, but now you have a full up receiver. I have the older RX8000 and love it. It is very convenient for switching between satellite and the DVD player.

BTW, Sweeper, does that Samsung have to have its bulbs replaced every couple thousand hours?
