What would Gore have done if he had won?
I don't mean this to rub salt into your leftist wounds, but I really wonder what the concensus is.
BTW: I don't think Gore would have sat on his hands, either.
Personally, I think he would have gone into Afganistan quicker, but under equipped and undermanned. The reason I say this is that the Democrats generally don't like to see "America's footprint" get too large (as demonstrated in Somalia). The tend to want to use the least force necessary. They want to spank, not strangle.

Speculate all you want, we'll never know like we know how Bush has repeatedly shot himself in the foot after he sucked on it awhile.

Well, it should be safe to say that we wouldn't be in Iraq wasting American lives...

Toad, too bad you are looking at 5 more years of being bitter.
That wasn't the point of the thread. The point was to explore what, based on Democratic platforms and policies and general attitudes toward the world and our place in it, they may have done differently.
Of course you will never know. But terror will not go away for awhile and you may get a chance to find out someday when another Democrat inherits the White House.

I certainly hope I don't have to put up with Bush for five more years... I wonder if he'll swindle a way to hold back the elections. Would be rather neat, eh?
Wasn't the point of the thread? You are asking what Gore would have done. I state that he wouldn't be doing the things that Bush is doing right now. Although, the surprise visit to Iraq was a "caring" thing to do.

| That is correct. I doubt he would have even gone into Afghanistan. Just sit around on his (now)fat ass and send a bombing run or two.

1) He would have shown some fiscal responsibility and not passed a huge tax cut for the wealthy with a down-turning economy looming.
2) He would not have thumbed his nose at the entire world regarding the Kyoto accord.
3) He would have continued efforts to bring about peace in the Middle East.
4) He would have "walked the walk" when it came to "reaching across the aisle" and actually pursued some more-or-less centrist policies.
5) He definitely would NOT have appointed a religious zealot as Attorney General.

None of this really matters in the least, nor is reasonable or necessary.
Since an unbiased discussion on any of this cannot (and has not, and will not) take place - any sort of conclusion that would be drawn from this thread would never be accurate.

That doesn't mean it isn't fun to argue about it.
I know nothing about Gore personally, but I have a feeling that if we had gone to Iraq, I agree with whoever spoke about the small footprint thing. Poor democrats.
Speak softly and carry a big stick. When speaking doesn't work, use the damn stick. Bush didn't hesitate.

Gore, or any other President, Republican or Democrat, couldn't have made a bigger mess.
Before the dust settles in Iraq, several thousands of unnecessary lives would have been lost, terrorism given a huge impetus ironically, and people here would have made many scarifices for a lost cause.
