Speeding (within reason) isn't always a bad thing. Speed limits are often arbitrary and very often ridiculous. What's more important is your own judgment. If you're on a street where a child or animal or even another car could suddenly dart out in front of you, you need to be going slow enough to stop on a dime. If it's snowing or raining heavily, you need to be driving sensibly. If you have a dread fear of driving in the snow, for Pete's sake stay home or get someone else to drive. Rarely is a job worth your life.

Too often, though, I've seen speed limits abused by the local police or sheriff as a way to make money for the community. That is not what they were intended to do. Ten miles an hour over the limit on the highway on a clear, dry day with little traffic shouldn't even raise a trooper's eyebrow. But ten MPH over the limit in a school zone is a different thing altogether. Traffic moves best when everyone uses a little sense. Unfortunately, that rarely occurs.

`Scuse me...but who said anything about driving on an interstate?..thePh@r@oh said he was tapped for 69 in a 55...its been awhile since I have heard of any interstate with a 55 mph S/L..(unless its in a city limits or work area).

In August, a cousin-family lost their 14 year old son to a lead foot driver on a rural but paved county road. True, the kid road his bicycle out in front of the car (which saved the driver a vehicular homicide charge), but the car was speeding..estimated at 63 in a 55. Right or wrong on the estimated speed, the area is generally residential, and the car was driving too fast..it had rained earlier too.

And before anybody here thinks I am a do-gooder, or an old fuddy-duddy... Know this...I was involved in an accident about 50 years ago where a pedestrian was killed...instantly! Took an awfull long time to sleep again without dreaming about that one.

Bottom line---"zone out" while driving = a possible driving infraction---***or worse***...

Uh huh---uh huh---go ahead---tell me im wrong...

You don't speed?

Besides, I don't listen to anyone that says that anyway. I hear my neighbors (driving in their BMW 5 Series, or Ford Explorer) tell the kids not to speed, as they illegally pass me on a one lane road, when I am going 10 over already.

It happens though.

Yeah... I know what you mean...back about 40 years ago, there was an intersection near where I worked...every day or time I looked up as this county cop came by..he never stopped for the stop sign. You could see at least a mile in any direction after the crops had been harvested. One day, I sat beside this county cop at a sandwich shop..and I mentioned that to him..being carefull to kinda snicker so as to not get him upset...and that dood told me you don't do as I do.. you do as I say do!.. I shut the he** up!

It was mostly just a joke about the kid on the interstate. I'll say what was the kid doing playing on the highway then =)

Sorry to hear of the loss of your cousin. I travel those sorts of roads day in and day out. I'd be hard pressed to find someone going 55, especially me. I can also count the number of kids I've seen playing on those roads on the fingers on my feet.

After having more than my share of tickets in NC.... Here is a hint..

Get a lawyer.. you "might" be able to get it reduced to driving to an unsafe movement charge.... no ins points and 1 license point...

If not, the best you will do on your own will be reduced by the DA probably to a gulity charge of 64/55.

Counties vary also...
