Dog With Diabetes

I have a 10 year old female Samyoed dog. Just found out she has diabetes. Anyone have a dog with diabetes? I'm just wondering how long the lifespan is when they have diabetes. Thank You!

I have a friend who had a dog that had diabetes...he treated her every day, gave her the shots..put her on a diet and kept her as healthy as possible, took her to parks where she could be unleashed and run. Like humans, diet and exercise is everything to a diabetic. His dog live several years after she was discovered to be diabetic. So.. take it from there... your dog will need some special care, but she should live a good long time if she is given treatment and care. Blindness and leg problems are a bad side effect of diabetes in humans and animals..so, it just depends on how good you can take care of your dog.

Well if you a good talker and know some people you may be able these people to help you out....
Shohta Kodama, Willem Ku¨htreiber, et. al. but they are at
Massachusetts General
Hospital and Harvard Medical School

They just published a paper in Science 2003 November 14; 302: 1223-1227
titled
Islet Regeneration During the Reversal of Autoimmune Diabetes in NOD Mice

NOD stands for Nonobese Diabetic

Good luck just keep control of the dogs food intake get some special food and get him/her outside for some walking...
