I blacked out!!
Hi gang.
Really strange thing happened last night. I was in bed watching a tape when I started coughing (just getting over a flu). Next thing I know I'm on the floor, blood on the floor as I busted my mouth and a black eye. I saw that the movie had passed about two minutes when I came to. What the hell? I don't remember it but today I've been feeling dizzy all day so I stayed in and slept most of the day. I'm feeling pretty good tonight but I don't like what happened. Even my sis's really worried about me when she saw my face ( I got a shiner).
Anyway I'd never blacked out before so it must have been a pretty bad flu.

I second Cruez' advice. You must have fallen pretty hard to get busted up like that.

I blacked out from blunt trama once. To my knee. Not kidding. I hit my knee so hard I passed out.
But I felt pretty screwy for the rest of the day too. If you coughed hard enough, you probably starved your brain of oxy and went down. I think it's more unsettling to your mind that it happened than it is to your body.
But if it happens again, or you still feel dizzy tomorrow, I'd probably see a doc.

Blacking out like that, especially during a coughing or sneezing fit, is not unusual at all. However if it happens routinely, or even just more than once, then I'd definitely consider seeing a doctor. Also you should see a doc if you think you may have done more damage than just your black eye or fat lip. Or if you're just concerned at all, go see your doc. It's not going to hurt you to see a doctor. But OTOH I also wouldn't worry too much about a one time black out that happened while your body was not at 100% (since you're getting over the flu) and was probably just from the coughing which can easily make you feel lightheaded or kinda woozy even under normal conditions.
As long as you didn't hurt yourself too bad, I wouldn't worry. If it happens again, definitely go get checked out.

"Next thing I know I'm on the floor, blood on the floor as I busted my mouth and a black eye."
look dude, you dont have to lie like this....if your girlfriend got mad and dotted that eye one time, dont sweat it, its happened to all of us.
lol j/k. I blacked out a couple years back while sitting at the comp....I was taking fat burners (ripped fuel) and I hadnt eaten anything....I had been racing bmx about 45 miles away...when I left I got a bag of popcorn...got home took the 4 fat burners and got on the comp....mistake...not supposed to take them on empty stomach..or rather you are supposed to eat em before a meal.
Anyway I blacked out while typing....but I didnt really pass out...I guess I walked around incoherent...cuz when I "came to" I was on my balcony...3rd floor up etc.....I was like "uhh, why am I out here". I was all kinds of weirded out...had no clue what was going on. I was sort of freaked out....walking around the apt, lol. This girl had given me her phone number earlier in the day on a piece of paper and I found it...I was staring at it like "what the freak..whose name is this on this piece of paper"..I had no clue.
Then, (this is the kicker), I go out on the balcony trying to figure out why I was out there.....so I look over off the third floor down to the parking lot below......I notice my sponge mop laying down there.....it was on my balcony...I was like.."what in the world..how did that get down there??".....THEN...I noticed the car it was laying beside had a busted windshield!!!!
oopsy. lol. I wrote em a note....ended up costing me the insurance premium.
Shoot, you got off cheap!!!!!

One thing to consider is that viruses (even those that cause the flu or colds) can also attack heart tissue, which can lead to blackouts. You won't necessarily have any "chest pain" symptoms when a virus attacks your heart, but you may feel very weak, giddy, and pass out easily.
Worth getting checked out by your doc if you still feel pretty weak and unwell a day or two after your blackout. Could be just your cold getting worse, or could be a sign of something more serious. Don't ignore such warnings - get checked out.
Cheers
Mick
