Fry's Sticker of death??

Exactly what does this mean? I have seen people reference this and had pm'ed someone privately to get an answer long time back but never did get an answer. So im curious what does it means when someone says, "advoid fry's sticker of death?"

Curious!

Perhaps its the repackaged sticker or return sticker you know the one that 3/4 of their products of covered in. I see them all over here a friend told me to be cautious about buying hardware from them.

Yeah, it's the return sticker! I bought a m/b that had one and tried to return it. No, we won't take it back the serial #'s don't match.
All right, I went home got the bad m/b (serial # was not a match either) and went back.
It turned out, the cashier had keyed in the wrong m/b serial #. I ended up getting a store credit .
I maintained my cool, even though I was P.Off, and got the situation resolved in a positive manner.
Fry's has some great deals, just don't buy a product with a return sticker on it!

I second the returned sticker as being the sticker of death.

Be very careful with Fry's when buying hardware. I don't touch anything with that returned sticker.

Just so you know you need to look at other hints that what you are buying is new/unopened. I remember when Diamond would send me retail boards for review with little Diamond logos on the shrink wrap. At CompUSA and places like that you would see the Diamond logos however they never popped up at Fry's. I've always suspected something is fishy over there because of these 2 observations.

Yep I would never buy a white stickered item, unless it was for sure unbreakable...

Hi NeoStar

Not only that, but even if a package doesn't have the returned sticker, if it isn't shrink-wrapped or otherwise completely sealed, I'll check the contents of the package to make sure everything that should be there, is there.

Okay fello TechIMO's

Thank you for the clarification on this. Yes I have seen those very stickers, I usally buy one one with oout the additonal stickers. I am also cautious about buying from frys also, but its hard nto to beat thier prices often.

Good to know about the little hint of the company logo's on the shrink wraps.

Just wanted to make a clarification on this more so I am wiser the next time i drive out to frys.

My next question is, why do they restock items that have clearly been returned for a malfuction or defective part? Doesn't the store have some sort of return policy from thier buyers for defective products returned within 30 days of purchase?

I have only had one problem with frys in the past and to make a long story short I ended up with the stick in the rear.

Thanks a bunch!!!

Just for reference:

The FRY's near me has setup a seperate return section and If you stand there and watch a little, you'll notice that the sticker sometimes now gets placed on right when it is being returned! Based on the cashiers visual inspection and the verbal reason for return is the basis on wether or not they even test the item before putting it back on the shelf!

Since my recent and pleseant experiences with newegg I won't be going to Fry's nearly as much!

Yep, that's what they do here, too - they slap that puppy on and write the info right at the return desk. I think it's their policy or something..

I don't care, I still like Fry's. As long as you know what to look out for, you're ok. And returning most stuff is, well.. no problem. lol

my friend even bought a digital camera for a project, used it, then returned it back..

for some reason the anaheim stores has a really good return policy, basically for any reason u give them, they'll let you return it
