Sheesh---how should I handle this? I feel so bad---
A neighbors kid has climbed on the roof of my $25,000 vehicle (not the first time) I ask him to get off---he refuses, I laugh and say "I wont help you with your bike or skooter anymore" he says he doesnt care---next I say---"im gonna tell your mom you arnt listening---I want you OFF my truck" NO! is what I get---"get off or im going to hose you" I dont care!---"if I hose you you are going to be wet and cold and have to explain it to your mom" I dont care!---the neighbor across from me hollars at him telling him to "GO HOME" as well, I repeatedly plea with this 6 year old and finally say----"this is the last time im asking you, get OFF of my truck or you are getting wet" I dont care!---I -sprinkle- him with water, again asking for him to get OFF my property---no response to my request to get off my truck and he appeals to me to wet him more, ---I wet him enough to get him off my truck and I tell him "NOW go home and tell your mom why you are wet and ask her to come and talk to me about it" ---
Her way of dealing with this was to stand 25 feet away yelling out of control, finally attempting to insult me---(yes I apoligized)
The Police show---I explain ive lived here 25 years and dont think I should be assulted by the neighbors wayward children that refuse to listen, they say I CAN NOT wet the kids and could be held responsible (mentioning going to jail) if a child slips and falls while illegally invading my property (my vehicle or otherwise)---of course I agree saying im sorry this happened asking the Officers to please, ask the mother to attempt to help the child understand he was wrong, and please teach him the difference between "right and wrong" if he is going to be allowed to go wherever he wants without parental guidence within the neighborhood (he is only 6----and obviously needs alittle guidence)
In this case the child was WRONG and there is no question---I admit, I was wrong as well---the Police informed me I should allow the neighborkids to damage my vehicle and call their "non emergency" number during or afterwords---if a furthur occurance happens, I guess thats what I will do---
I feel really out of line, the Mother screaming at me that ive treated her child like a dog etc...
:-(

Knock on the nieghbor's door and tell them that their child is not welcome on your property. If the child is on your property again, call the police...let them deal with the agravation. Continue until you have enough incidents that you take the parents to court and get a restraining order.
Frankly if it was not a child, in Texas, you could blown the little bugger's head off.

Hmmm...toughy...I must admit, if my son came home soaking wet because my neighbor hosed him off, I would have a big problem with that. Granted, my son would be wrong for being on the vehicle, but squirting the kid isn't a good way to handle that situation. (call the police if there's any damage of course)
However, that would never happen as my 6 yr old son is never alone outside...so I blame the parents for his mischief to be honest. Most 6 yr old kids know the difference between wrong and right, but they lack the maturity to always do what is right...after all, they're kids.
I would have went and got his parents so they could deal with him...that way you don't fall under the "two wrongs don't make a right" scenario. I'm not saying what you did was horrible, TKOP, don't get me wrong. Just better ways of dealing with those little buggers!

TKOP: Tough spot that the kid put you in. What RADAR said. Just keep calling the police. Eventually they'll get sick of being called out for such a silly thing, and lay the smack down on the mother. | Scratched paint is cause for taking someones life? You condone that?
Anyhow, next time call the police as they informed you. File a report and any damage should be covered by comprehensive. Such is life.

Gomer,
Trespassing is the issue. If someone enters my property without invitation, they are subject to my rules. Of course a warning is waranted, if unheaded they are subject to my defense of property. Would you want people standing on your property unwelcomed?

Yes, they are called door to door salesman. Although if I asked them to leave, and they keep on talking, I won't just randomly shoot them in the leg. |
