Stopping the sound through my dorm's room-connecting door?

Hey. I'm living in a dorm, and for some reason there is a single, thin door between my room and the next. Problem is, they're loud at the worst times, and even earplugs can't block them out. I went into the room on the other side (without the door) and it is nearly silent, so it's gotta be this connecting door. We never (can't) use it, but I think we could get it open with our RA if necessary.

They do crazy deleted and won't stop when I ask or knock. I finally tried reverse psycology by moving my singing practices from the music studios to my room, and now they support a new solution.

What's a very cheap, easily aquirable, effective way to buffer this sound? Put something up against the door and under the crack? Anything in the side or top cracks? Calling all acoustical experts, please. Thanks.

You could put some sound proof insulation in front of that door and the put posters over it to hide it, but those rolls are pretty big.

Another option is really fun. You need a couple of rolls of plastic wrap, and a can or two fo "Great Stuff" foam insulation.

Just cover the door and the frame with the plastic wrap, and then some over the the front frame to make a pocket and start filling it with the foam.

Put posters until you cover what you did and enjoy a quiet room.

The reason why you should make a pocket of the plastic wrap is for when you leave the dorm you won't get into troble for what you did, and it can be reversible without any problems.

Spray Pepper spray or CS tear gas under the door crack.

Where could I find this insulation or "Right Stuff"? Walmart? Any hardware store? Is this cheap? How much would I need?

hardware store has insulation, can get great stuff at wal-mart, 5 bucks a can or so, insul for a sheet probably not more than $10, but it's been awhile since i bought any, either way it shouldn't run youy more than $25

If the door is well made, go to a glass shop and buy a piece of laminated glass about 1" smaller than the door all the way around.

Then mount it with clips on the bottom and clips on the top (the glass shop has this stuff) using LONG screws.

Finish by attaching a dressing mirror over it using a second set of mirror clips over the ones holding the laminated glass.

Heavy, but it will work.
