Thanks I will try this. I am aware of the high voltage carried by the EHD and that with a long screwdriver you can discharge the voltage by slipping it under the cap on the CRT and then shunting it to the chassis. Unfortunately I don't have a long enough screwdriver. Another member is suggesting a similar cause as you and your father so I'm hopeful.
I'll get back to you..... If I don't send the paramedics. (Bad joke)

Yes your spot on with your discharge technique of the EHT lead. You shouldn't need to take it off anyway as you could probably slide out the board and turn it over with the lead still connected. When you turn the board over try to rest it on some blocks so its not rsting against any of the large heat sinks or this might create other dry joints. Good luck let me know how you go. BTW thanks for the sys req Answer.....

I was an apprentice TV repairman back in high school, but I only know how to fix tube-era stuff. I remember once when replacing a 25" picture tube, I forgot to discharge the CRT anode. I had the chassis out, everything unbolted, reached in to grab the tube, and wham! --- next thing I knew, I was on my butt about 6 feet away, backed up against another bench! My boss proceeded to laugh HIS butt off!

Needless to say, lesson learned.

My hair is curly enough without resorting to something like this to add a curl or two.

Thanks to all for your help. It may be a couple days B4 I get to this as work has reared it's ugly head and I am going to be in for a couple of LOOOONG days. I will report back when I've had a free moment or break to work on the set.
