Just one of those silly questions
The Plumbing thread reminded me of somehing.
Here in the UK water from the supply (mains) is fed to a holding tank in the loft before supply to the taps (faucets), this may be a building regulation, there must, by kaw be at least one outlet fed directly from the mains.
This obviously has advantages, e.g. if the supply fails (extremely rare) we have a reservoir to tide us over (like the water related phrasing?), although I would not recommend drinking the water from the tank unless you boil it. These tanks are insulated and (should be ) covered, but even so......, it does seem pretty archaic.
With members here from all over the world I was wondering how it is done in your country, so I made it a little poll (my first please be gentle).

Our tap water comes from a central line... Although, I have yet to acquire the taste for it...
We have water coolers in this household with purified water delivered once every two weeks for a small fee...

Brandon,
Our water is IMO too heavily chlorinated, if you run a glassfull fast all you can smell is chlorine, I never drink the stuff !!

No storage tank. In my building, its straight supply from Mains. People here use Brita or other water filters for drinking water or they buy water. Which is absurd. Like buying air. Which they do in Tokyo.
But I've got this huge immunity 'cause I came here from India and nothing bothers me. Its all so clean here. Never get sick. Thought the Anthrax thing was a big joke. | |

The water in my town is great, and even floridated! It is even better in the winter when ice cold water comes from the tap. |

Just wondering but if you don't have a cold water header tank like I have here in the UK & everything is plugged into the mains water supply whats the water pressure like in your houses?
Do all your taps have a similar pressure?
I would think that if my bath taps ran at mains pressure my shower would explode
I drink water from the tap all the time & it never did me any harm
Regards
Eddy

Our mains pressure is typically 30 psi or so. The city maintains tanks & pumps to keep it so.
We have a computer controlled water softener/filtraion system in our home, that removes everything from the water, though the water here is usually very good.
But what happens is this: Wells are tested for bacteria (etc.) on a regular basis. When it rises in a particular well, they dose that well with chlorine. If your local mains is close to that well (all the wells, tanks, etc are on a big loop) you can really taste the chlorine for a couple days, and then it diminishes.
So the taste/quality does fluctuate, and with the home system, we get consistant quality, and avoid buying water.
Then again, the system was about $3000 installed. You can buy a lot of Perrier for that kinda moula!
