How high, or low..do these things fly???? What is the range of the hand held rockets that the iraqis fire at these?

1-2 mile range, 20,000ft Alt. for the newer Soviet SA series.
Choppers are pretty easy to bring down with one as they usally fly below 10,000 ft. and are slow.
Looks like the Iraqs are finally learning how to use them.
Here's a link to the older SA-7 and the newer SA-16

Whenever there are war casualties, it is tragic.
The disturbing part is that such incidents, involving either US or Iraqi casualties, are only going to increase as the resistance to this occupation snowballs.
The last thing you want is a desperate invader or a desperate enemy. Because that makes matters even worse.

I haven't seen anything yet to indicate this was a hostile fire incident. Is anyone reporting it as such?
EDIT: This was in the Boston Globe. Quote: |
It was not immediately clear whether the chopper was brought down by hostile fire or a mechanical failure, a spokeswoman said. But several officers who asked not to be identified said it was probably hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.
| Poor journalism, IMO. If it's not clear what caused the crash, why rely on "officers who asked not to be indentified"? Either they have evidence of hostile fire or they don't. Speculation should not be considered fact.

No official cause yet, but CNN says that local's claim it was ground fire. BBC says no known cause.
JP asked for info and I gave it!

| I know. I wasn't being critical at all. I just wanted to know if I had missed something.
