War declared on 'resistance'

McCoy said she considered the term resistance fighters an accurate description of Iraqis battling US troops, but said it also evoked World War II - specifically the French Resistance or Jews who fought against Nazis in the Warsaw ghetto.

Who exactly are they trying to fool or brain-wash?

LA Times has asked reporters to stop using the term Resistance Fighters.

Presumably this will help in reducing attacks on soldiers and make the people here feel better about this invasion.

Go figure.

The sad reality is that we live in a world dominated by euphemisms, buzz words and innuendo:
'Pro-Choice' (since when is a child's life a 'choice'?)
'Gay' for homosexual.
Homicide Bombers, for suicide bombers.
'Patriotism' for virulent nationalism.
'Physically Challenged' for handicap.
ad nauseam.

The real issue is mind control; that semantics can deeply influence the way we think. Perception is shaped by how an issue is presented, and the airwaves of radio and television are its battleground.

I think the sad thing is that we have people constantly trying to persuade our points of view by what is little less than an attempt at mind control.

But the real sad thing though, is that in a lot of instances it actually works.

What exactly are they resisting? Having a democracy by the Iraqi people, for the Iraqi people? Freedom? Aid? What will result from a "resistance"? Nothing except more deaths, both of combatants on both side and civilians, and delays in turning the country back over to the Iraqi people.

Calling them "resistance fighters" is the opposition's way of elevating our enemies to a moral equal. I guess if you were working for Saddam, you would consider yourself a "resistance fighter". If you are shooting at American soldiers, you are an enemy. Since you are not in uniform and your country has lost the war and you continue to fight, you are terrorist soon to occupy a body bag.

There's a lot more killing to do yet.
