Is it just me or do I distinctly remember the "Higher Ups" PROFUSELY AND SINCERELY PROMISE there would be no annoying banners or pop up ads on THIS site....
WHAT? Is that not a "thing" anymore?????
I'm just curious...as my computer's been out for a while now, and JESUS, I come back to the site and its got more banners than one of those free hosting jobs....
You guys didn't cut a deal with Geocities did ya? Please tell me no...

I had a problem a while ago, but I believe the admin fixed it. I know they still use one banner though. If you just leave it open no more pop up.

Try Ad-Aware www.lavasoftusa.com
Maybe adware is causing all those pop-ups. Also Morphieus has this annoying webcam pop-upad you can't click away.

| I'm positive I've had that same ad popup from right here at TechIMO!! Yes, I've seen it from Morpheous too, but I didn't have it running at the time!!
Also, yes you can close it, the creators of that ad were at least nice enough to use an image map for the popup and made the 'X' at the top right corner so it actually works like a normal 'X' on any application window does!! Try it, it'll close!!
cya!

That's the price this site has to pay. There is now big company behind this site who finances this. But the positive side is this site is ours!!
Popups are needed unfortunately to keep this site free and ours!!

Of course I am intimately aware of everyone's opinion about pop-ups. Hopefully you all are aware of my opinion about keeping this site free, the fact that it is my full time job, and the fact that the site costs $350/month to host.
We are using a couple of ad agencies to sell our ad space. I have let them know that I want them to go light on pop-ups. I've been surfing on TechIMO for hours on end and I've only seen one, and it popped up and then went behind my main window.
I will do what I can to keep the site free while not having annoying ads at the same time, but if I block all pop-ups, no ad agency will accept us and I won't be able to sell any ads whatsoever.
Back when I owned SysOpt, 1994-1999, advertisers were paying $15-$30 per 1,000 ad views. Now, they're paying about $2 or less in most cases, and about $10 for pop-ups. That's why the agencies require pop-ups. |
