I need a cellphone!

For biz use. (or maybe just a second line would be cheaper?)

But I need the cell really for while Im in the gym or elsewhere etc.

But I know zero about them, never owned one.

what is the deal with them..does any cell phone do the same thing basically or do certain phones work with certain networks???

Im clueless.

If someone calls me on my cell..does that use MY minutes up??

I know some places GIVE you a cheap phone if you buy a plan..but what if I find a good used phone dirt cheap like at anands forum?? Can i then just take it and get a "plan" somewhere?

What the freak is "activated"?

Someone help a brother out with just the basics so I dont get taken for a ride, lol.

Thanks, JP

is this a good deal??

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...984886-9237764

Amazon has the new Nokia 6610 color Wireless Phone (T-Mobile) for $170 - $150 Amazon rebate (Exp 11/12) - $50 T-mobile rebate w/ $39.99+ service plan (Exp 12/31) = minus $30

You actually make $30 on the deal plus free shipping.

?

Well you need to see what service you want. I love AT&T They let me change my plan during the billing cyle incase you go over minutes so you dont have to pay an arm and a leg, just upgrade your plan. Also the best deal will probably be for you to shop around. When I bought my phone from AT&T I had verizon and Sprint stuff in my hand. Droped the price right down Nextel has some cool walkie-takie type features that people are really finding usefull for work related stuff. anything I can elaborate on?

Ill check that out after while. I just ran in for a sec.

But I just spoke to a lady that has "suncom"..whatever that is...and hse pays $10 /month for 100 minutes and has has 8 states.

If I dont plan to call out on the phone does it matter how many "states" I have?

The biz is just started.... I wonder how many minutes I could get away with, hmmm. 500 minutes is 16 minutes a day.

If I am running a small biz on the border..couldnt I just get away with those two states? OR would it affect people calling me??

Cuz the biz is home based so Id be using the other phone for calling out etc.

states is where you are allowed to call FROM. so i guess for your case it doesnt matter.

maybe you want to look into getting a tracfone? www.tracfone.com no monthly bill, every 3 months you just put minutes onto it. that is what i had before my new phone.

John, to answer one of your questions.

If a person calls you on your cell phone it does use YOUR minutes as well as when you are calling out. That is why you need to be careful with your minutes and select the plan that will fit your needs.

The only phone that doesn't use your Minutes outgoing or incoming are T-Mobile Phones however to get that benifit you can only be getting or recieving T-Mobile calls to get those types of free minutes. Its not popular enough as of yet but its great for in family use where family memebers call each other alot, this way they can get free calling in and out.

Sorry not to confuse you any more than you are. Anyways. AT&T is pretty good.

Try and find a plan that has like 500 to 800 Anytime Minutes with 3000 to unlimited night and weekend minutes. Nights is considered from 9PM to I think 6AM.

That site I showed you www.point.com will give you a great deal on a new quality phone. I'd steer clear of used ones.

Activation is similar to the "hook-up" fee you would pay the landline to start your service.

Most providers will want you to sign a contract for 1-2 years. The penalty for breaking the contract will run about $200. That is pretty typical.

cell phone can call any other phone # that exists like any other regular phone. Some providers i.e. Nextel have intranetwork features like direct-connect (walkie talkie like communication, useful for field work).

typically yes. However, you can get "free incoming" plans from some providers in which calls you receive do not count against your minutes. These plans are usually only contain a small amount of regular minutes (300 or so).
