longest time getting AOL free

Hey guys,
My brother has now gotten aol free for 7 months with 2 more free months coming.
He is a casual internet user, but calls to cancel AOL everytime and they give him another free month or two. Kind of poor business practice if you ask me, but I guess they are just counting on him forgetting to call, and his card getting billed for their outrageous prices.
Anyway, any one else done or seen this?

dragonb

p.s. hey mods, if this is somehow inappropriate, zap it, and I'll consider myself chastised.

I've only gotten it free for about 2 months. I've got some friends who did it though for about the same length of time your buddies are doing it. Yeah, if they give it to you, I see nothing wrong with that.

I guess if he is really getting it free, they figure that one person and Im sure more is really nothing compared to everyone esle thats paying.
Plus I think it is a good busneiss move, They problay count on him telling someone(you) that hes getting it free. Maybe you would try it and maybe you would tell someone(everyone on this board)
Maybe someone esle will sign up because Hes getting it free.
You ever look at on of aol disk they always have the number for you and then say pass this disk to a friend and heres a number for them.

My dad signed up for AOL a year ago but then canceled it a month later.... They said they would give him 2 free months so he said what the heck and took them....

3 months's later after he had long forgotten about AOL he finds a charge on his CC oops....

He phones them up cancels and refuses extra months...

That's what they are trying to do....

He ahd better not forget to call... (in regards to the above)

Thats why I never sign up for a trail with aol, I seen somewhere that if you dont cancel with in one month or the time you hours run out they will start to charge you.
On of my aunts did that and didnt know to cancel it and had about $60 charged to them after they got another ISP and never even logged on aol, But I think she got her money back.

Bet I can "win" this one!

I quit actively using AOL about 3 years ago. But while I was with them, I got a Visa from them which awards "AOL points" for usage. Also, I had cut my service to the $4.95 limited access plan.
Tried to cancel, they gave me 3 months free. By that time, I'd accumulated enough points for several months free. Next time I did finally get charged, I called to cancel & they credited me for the amount, plus a couple free months...

And so on!

Last time, about two months ago, I called to cancel & stayed firm - until they offered me their "new" $2.95 plan - plus 3 months free, of course! Now, at that rate I may never again pay for AOL.

Kind of a stupid game, actually. I never use the thing except for the "portfolio" feature, or as a "junk" email addy to give out.

MSN does the same thing, except they promised if I paid for 6 months, I could have the next six months free. They billed me for 8 months. When I called and complained, they reversed only 1 month, but gave me 2 more months free. They ARE hoping you will not call back, but I MARKED IT ON MY CALENDER and now I will cancel, because they are so deceitful! If I didn't sign up again they weren't going to cancel the 2 months they had already charged!! What a scam!!
