Traditionally Dutch people celebrate New Year with loads of fireworks. My friend made his own fireworkbomb.

Reminds me of the time I was about 12 and me and my cousin and my sister where playing around with alot of bottle rockets about 4 gross and we somehow got one in a chair that had all of them in it. They went off and we had to run about 50 feet away, we never found any that were not blown up and the chair had a hole through the bottom.
I didn't get around to the fireworks this year, though that didn't seem to influence my neighbors. I was half-asleep in the den (sleeping on new year's = I need a life!), then I was suddenly awaked by a boom loud enough to shake my windows. They launched the stuff you would normally see in professional shows. I bet they lit a couple of thousand dollars in a few minutes! Must be nice to burn money....
