Car help...

Well everybody I crashed the car....

I'm ok, but the car isn't. Sad really, because I loved that car. It was a '89 Volkswagon FOX. That 5-speed manual was the funnest! It was the car that my friends and I laughed about. Good times.

If you would like pics of wrecked car here they are...

Anyways, I got a new car! Yep, I came home and SURPRISE!!! Think I'm a spoiled kid? Well, my mom felt bad after seeing my life halted because I had no car, so she took the liberty of buying one for me! Wait, it gets worse.

She got the car for $500 and with THIS car, my friends laugh AT it. Seriously I'm embarrased. It's an '82 (went back!) Chevy Citation. The dash reminds my of the fake wooden plankes in a mobile home. The radio has PUSH buttons that aren't set to real stations and the tuner knob doesn't work anyway. No A/C. It''s got power windows, but they go as slow as molasses.

Anything else?.... It is an auto which I hate! I shall never go to auto again after this. The gas pedel is REALLY hard to push. But hey, beggers can't choosers right? I mean, those 3 days of no car really sucked, and at least I have 4 whells that are powered by a working engine. That is what I keep trying to tell myself... over and over.....

One thing that is cool about the car, is that since it's so old, the exhaust sound really loud, and that is a plus since every kid on the block is adding custom exhaust to their car. I got it for FREE!! yes!

Here is my question and the real point of this post: I told you the radio doesn't work. When I actually turn it up one speaker sounds like it's under water... I;m guessing that ne is bad. The three other speakers get REAL REAL REAL bad "aternator feed-back". It's called something like that. I can basically hear the engine through the radio.

First off. Is there ANY way to get a decent system in that car. And by decent I mean 4 speakers and a turner that can MAYBE play cd's, NOT a sub woofer and CRAZY noise-emitting thumpers. I just HAVE to have a radio. I figure since 1 speaker is shot, and the rest probably suck, I just get 4 speakers that hopefully can fit the holes already in the car. I can buy a simple cd deck and I guess attach it under the dash or something.

The realquestion is what causes that feedback, and how do I get rid of it? The alternator belt fell off, and that is the one thing we had replaced before my mom bought the car. The gauge still says the battery isn't being charged, but the guy told me that the gauge is broken. This may be cause, but I don't see how.

I realize TechIMO isn't a car forum, but you guys have helped me in other endevours before.

thx!! (wow did I just type all that?)

Run down to Kragens and pick up one of their cheepo stereo systems. They're not the best, but they get the job done. I belive the feedback is caused by a bad ground connection to the radio.

So that should mean if I put in ALL new radio and speakers I should bypass the short and not have any feedback, right?

Yup. Nice rollover by the way. I once did a roll with a full flip in my old 1972 Chevy Luv pickup. Talk about an "E" ticket ride!

Yea, that volkswagon was solid steel. Built like a tank.
