Media And then this has to happen....

Anyone remember the thread I posted about inquiring about switching jobs from being the "Floor guy" to being an electrician?

MAN, am I glad that I'm a procrastinator

We've been sweating for the last year on how we were going to finance major dental for my wife ( she needs dentures ), because my dental insurance bites, and my credit does too.

Well, I mention this to the boss the other day, that our HEALTH insurance won't cover the oral surgery because it isn't needed due to anything other than just needing braces ( I could whack her upside the head with a baseball bat and they'd cover it though ). He says he'll check into the insurance side of it since our plan isn't exactly Blue Cross/Blue Shield...if you know what I mean.

I figure, the insurance is there, why not at least try to use it....right?

Well, long story short, the boss is outta town presently and I'm dealing with the "kid" in charge who's basically in my boss' back pocket ( more power to him I say, he can be his slapping boy..takes the pressure off of me )

I ended up pulling a 13 hour shift last Friday ( sick as a dog....this was the day after I feel asleep waiting for a green light ) which pretty much wiped my out until 3pm on Saturday ( sleeping ). Of course, I made a stink about it on Monday, so he gave me the day off ( how generous ).

I come in today, get a light day ( again, how generous <biting sarcasm> ) and get back to the shop early. I get ready to go through the jobs I had done when he tells the 2 guys in there ( his cousins ) to scram and shut the doors behind them. ( ?????? Red flag! ).

He leans his head low to the desk, and I do to and he says in a low voice, trying to be secretive or some crap, and says....here, get your wifes teeth fixed...you've been a good worker here, Dave knows it, I know it. Just don't complain about working late or pulling a couple of Saturdays ( like I don't already ). We had to run it through payroll so it got taxed, you'll have to make up the difference yourself.

Well hell, they cut me a $2500 bonus! I came home and said to the wife....
"Honey, how much do you appreciate all the hard work I put in at my job?"
to which she replied "A lot, why?"
"Because" I said "apparently the shop does too...look"
"What's this"
"look at it and tell me what you think it is"
pause
"They told me to go get my wife's teeth fixed"
"........" cries.

So, needless to say, the wife is mucho's happy tonight. She's been wanting to get this done forever and now we can. I can't wait to see her new smile

That's really neat, Red!!

Pays to be a good worker sometimes, doesn't it? Literally.

So, you still thinking of moving on from there?

Cheers
Mick

I dunno Mick, I guess it depends on how they treat me ( which is pretty damn good right now! )

I'm loyal to those that treat me well....loyal like a dog. Which has its good and bad points.

It's quite heartening to know there are employers who still care abuot their employees especially these days.

He's not making it easy, is he?

Congratulations, it must feel good to know your hard work is noticed, appreciated and rewarded!

Excellent!

Agreed its hard to find a good company these days. My current company has made some strides for me when I was in a pinch as well...

Congrats to the wife!
Although that part where they take out all the teeth, and you have to go toofleth for awhile sucks! (heard from others)

Thank you, Red!

What a great story...Gives us all hope... ...and proves once again, that sometimes good things happen for good people.

And well deserved, from what I know of you.

Best, Todd
