Resinging from your job

I have done this before but it always seems a bit awkward. I have emailed (and printed) my boss, and thanked them for the opportunity to work here, learned this and that, and look forward to employment opportunities in the future. Also listed my reasons for leaving, such as unstable economy and my desire to work technically beyond the helpdesk, which I think will require a degree.

Anything I am missing out on?

no, it sounds like you covered all the bases. my biggest reccomendation is that unless you were THAT unhappy, you don't burn any bridges by saying you hated the job and that you enjoyed it but you wanted to persue other opportunities.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS leave on a happy, positive note.
ALWAYS.
Never know when you'll need a reference or need to go back.

Good Luck.

Always leave on the best note you can!

About 13 years ago - I had a gent leave my employ - mutual agreement - he wanted to move on - and I could not give his full time.

5 years later - I was one of his former employers and reference on his gun permit. Everyone gets interviewed up here when your in that biz. Money transfers!

He is now a supervisor for an airport security detail - and in his nish - great guy - but if he had burned me ??

I never try to burn any bridges or create a big scene. I always try to be polite and give two weeks. I could not give a full two weeks for this one though, cause school starts on the 14th and I had to wait until my wife got a job just today. I hope that does not hurt me.

As long as you explain why you didn't give the two weeks and they aren't too shorthanded they will probably forgive you.

On a tiny note, you misspelled resigning. You should have probably used quietting as that's almost impossible to misspell.

Oh yeah hehe, well at least I spelled it right on my letter

Oh and I told my boss over the summer I would be quitting soon, maybe in the fall if things worked out, so he cannot say this came out of the blue at all. In fact I gave them 5 more months of my employ than I had intended to.

Nah - as a matter of fact school is one thing

I always supported here - anyone who came in and did get into a situation with needing to leave short notice - never created a problem with me. I knew they were under the gun to sort things out fast , I always cut slack - a coffee later smoothes things too,
I always felt that this was a short term position - that was august 85 when I started here. Hairs grey - but my genes are good for keeping it - and my daughter is not close to her teens yet!

I still have old guys and gals stopping by - calling ten years after they were in for a work term - or here for several months.

I always wish them the best.
