Wildfire pics

Nasty

The pics of the street with unburned trees is bizarre. Like someone walked down the street blowing up houses.

that one picture with the unburned trees is indeed bizarre.... as you stated M_Six, it looks like the houses just blew up. Freaky....

Maybe eucalyptus trees don't burn as easily as other trees. I dont know what to make of that.

Oily Eucalyptus trees don't burn, they practically explode! Amazing they didnt go off, but it takes more than wind-whipped embers to ignite one.

I live just a few miles from the worst of it, just west of the community of Scripps Ranch, where at least 150 homes burned. Luckily the winds were blowing southwest, so my area was spared. I drove down one freeway Sunday morning and all I saw was a gray, smoke-filled sky for 15 or so miles, north to south.

I was actually visiting a few friends in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego this weekend, and a perfect weekend I picked to visit. The whole darned area was practically up in flames. Early Saturday morning, I woke up and went outside to smoke a cigarette, and being half-asleep as I was, I saw the ash falling and for a split second thought it was snowing. Ash fell for three days, and the air cleared up only briefly Sunday Night, I imagine because the wind shifted. It was pretty horrible down there, and I don't imagine it getting much better for a while yet.

EDIT: And to everyone of you who may be down in the affected areas, I hope for all the best that can be had in this situation. Keep safe.
