Canker sores?

Man, whaddaya do about it when you have a mouth full of canker sores?

I get this about once a year. It gets to the point where last time I actually lost weight from not eating b/c the pain was so bad. That's saying something because I'm not overweight at all.

I know it's a strain of the herpes virus and all that (no, I don't have herpes) last time the doctor actually gave me Valtrex, I felt kinda funny picking that up at the pharmacy

Do y'all know of any good remedies for temporary relief, or to aid the healing process?

I've tried alum, holding an asprin on the sore (which actually works, but there are nine of theses sucker in there right now) etc, etc.

Surely someone can help me out, I'm dyin' here

Because I'm a freakazoid?

I can't imagine why. I really have no clue, wish I did though.
I eat normally, can't associate it with anything I've eaten, no road kill, no wild game...

Yup to the ewwwwww part, I hope no one's totally grossed out

Hi, I've had this experience myself, so I can relate, I had em all over in my mouth and up and down my esophogus. I lost ten-fifteen pounds when it happened to me. I couldn't find anything that would help either. All I could eat was jello and milk. Sorry, you have my empathy. *ouch*

canker sores are caused by an inflammation of nerve endings.
Stress will usually cause an outbreak.
You should go with the Valtrex, don't fell ashamed the majority of the population has herpes 1 or 2 (BTW it's very similar to the chicken pox virus).

Herbal Remedies and Vitamins: Self-Help for Cold sores

A number of day-to-day supplements claim to help reduce the number of outbreaks experienced. Certain vitamins appear to help speed the healing of lesions. Some are better documented than others. The following are some of the most acclaimed self-help options.

Vitamins and Amino Acids

During an outbreak, applying vitamin E oil, gel or cream directly to lesions helps to dry out the lesions and promote faster healing. Taking vitamin E and beta-carotene supplements during an outbreak can also help reduce healing time.

Connections have been made between the frequency of outbreaks and the amino acid lysine. High lysine levels appear to suppress the cellular spread of the virus and reduce outbreaks. Lysine found in foods. Cold fish, butter, and egg yolks contain high amounts of lysine. Eating lysine-rich foods may help control outbreaks.
Um what I'm saying here is go to the drugstore and get a bottle of Lysine. At the first little tingle I take it (you know that funny feeling in your lip or mouth before the outbreak?)
Even if you start now, I take 4 or 5 in the am and same in the evening only during an outbreak. It's as good as Valtrex IMO. Then when they are gone just take one a day.

You learn more here by accident, than anywhere else by design.

Great info Surreal! I was going to suggest listerine or that stuff that numbs the pains in your mouth..forget the name.
