Seen a motorcycle rider bite it yesterday...
It was quite a sight. Luckily it appeared like the rider may have gotten away uninjured or maybe just a minor injury.
Anyways, yesterday morning I'm having to fight traffic to get to a job. It's early and still dark, just before sunrise. All of us in cars are trapped doing about 25 - 35 mph, sometimes less (like stopped) sometimes more (briefly up to 50mph but quickly back to 25mph).
As usual the bikers are riding between the lanes, some of them doing it safely, others going a little too fast. I've met so many people that get irritated that bikers ride between traffic like that. Not me, I'm the guy that will move over and give the biker a little extra room to get by. I've alwasy seen it as one of the perks of riding. Plus I know a few people that ride.
Anyways, it's a 3 lane freeway, I'm in the slow lane and I notice a rider zipping through traffic one lane over (between the fast lane and middle lane). He goes past my point and then just less than a car length past me something happens. A car in the middle lane was blocking my line of sight and I couldn't see exactly what went wrong, if someone clipped him or if he just lost it or what, but I know it's bad news because I saw his headlight beam suddenly change direction and shine up/right. Traffic was moving, so almost instantly the car that was blocking my sight is no longer in the way. What I see is a motorcycle, sideways and just about to hit the ground...the rider is jumping and pushing himself away from the bike...a split-second later (while he's still in mid jump) a car in the fast lane runs directly over his bike. I saw the headlamp flash out, a small shower of sparks that appeared to be electrical stuff shorting out as the machine was crushed and broken. No doubt the bike was a total loss. It was a big heavy sedan that plowed over it. The guy lands on his feet in the middle lane. Luckily the traffic in that lane had time to stop before hitting him.
You'd almost think it'd be cool seeing something like that, but it wasn't. I'm glad he wasn't seriously hurt, but still, that's just a crappy thing to happen to anybody. I kept thinking about it all day and I can still see an extremely detailed image of that bike being crushed by a big'ol gray 4-door sedan.
And to think, just a few seconds before this he was concerned with getting to work on time. So much for that idea.

Yikes.
I'm not sure if I'd ever buy a bike.. Seems like delicious fun, but there are too many bad drivers out there. ... like Warthog, for example..

I love the way they ride when we visit San Francisco. It's one of the best ways to travel around the city. (Forget the trolley cars and bus ).
Watching people crash on motorcycles is really scary.

I was in 3.30 traffic one day...long line of cars...mostly moving along pretty good....there was a truck beside me....behind the truck was a dude on a bike...then a car in front of the truck turned off and the truck moved up...so the biker was beside me.
Well, he was in the turning lane....and I thought he was sorta following close.....hehe.....I was looking at him and the truck....I saw it coming...the biker was looking to the side a bit too much...youknow, turning his head, daydreaming....watching women hang out their laundry I guess.....
Then I noticed just as he looked off to the side again..I saw brakelights...hehe..hehe didnt see them....then he looked back up and he was ALL OVER the trucks tailgate...he was skidding sideways toward the median..he didnt hit the truck but he ran up halfway on the median..he was "hopping" with hisleft leg on the curb/median trying to keep it upright...finally he lost it....it wasnt too bad though....maybe going 15 mph....I think he and the bike made it pretty much ok.
The funniest thing was that I heard him cussing the whole time he was trying to save it, lol.
I was on my way to 2nd shift work, I died laffing all day, I just couldnt get it outta my mind.

There is no way lane splitting would go over in DFW. too many rednecks that think "if'n I ain't goin' anywhere, then neither are you!"
f'n tards...
As a bikey, I applaud you Out for makin room for the sane ones that do it like it's supposed to be done.
There was a story about a 21 yo stunta that ran from the cops here yesterday moring.
He's cold as a wedge now, lasted about 3 minutes after the cops started pursuit. hit a curb, th th that's all folks...
no helmet, drunk @ 3 times the limit..
But, that's MY biggest fear riding to work, somebody smackin me from behind and me getting rolled by an SUV.. |

Motorcycle accidents are nothing to laugh about. I've been on the ground next to my bike wondering if I could still move my legs. There was nothing funny about it.

I saw this dude the other day......I "know" the dude from him working at a resteraunt my aunt works at....he got fired for arguing or threatening a fellow worker or some crap. He is one of these young dudes..thinks all that atiitude is cool I guess.
Anyway, I am leaving the mall...(no, its several years after he got fired, lol)...going up the main highway thru town....dude passes me on a bike....NO HELMET....ok, this aint the beach.....the only time I have seen peeps with no helmet is maybe if they unload it off of a truck and ride across the parking lot etc...or in a trailer park, lol
But this dude.....he flies by me...I am thinking .."well, he must just be checking out his bud's bike and he will turn off right here...he's just going around the block"....nope.....he stays on the main road....5o clock traffic..he's flying, lol....I tried to keep up just to see how far he'd get and when/if a cop would bust him and if he would run, lol.
Anyway, I lost sight of him....he had stayed on the main road from the mall headed toward the busiest section of the north part of town, lol.
granted, I was young once....I am sure in my 67 Lemans convertible..at 18...I am SURE I did things that would make him look like a monk....but at 36 I am scratching my head trying to figure out why anyone would be so dumb, lol. He was making peanuts at the resteraunt so I know he doesnt have the disposable income free to throw away on the ticket.
JP
hehe, its funny but he was going up the opposite way on the SAME stretch of road I saw the other dude wreck on.
And I wasnt laffing AT the other dude's wreck....it was just funny the way he wrecked. I used to ride when I was a kid and I raced BMX bikes...have had many wrecks....broke my collarbone and a rib racing bmx in 2000, lol. (at 33)
