Tick removal help needed.

Well so much for the advantage plus..

How do I take a tick off the dog without leaving the head inside?
Or does it matter?

Send a message via ICQ to Toadman
Light a match, blow it out and quickly apply it to the ticks behind.
Oh, and Frontline is better, hence the higher cost.

Nail polish. The tick will suffocate and pull it's head out and get stuck in the dried nail polish. Then you just peel it off. You may have to remove some hair around the tick.

Poor Lucy! That can really drive an animal crazy.

Yeah, that "Advantage" jazz doesn't work on fleas, either, as far as I've seen.

I've heard of the match method, but it seems to me that once you've done that a couple of times, that dog will learn to stay the heck away from you when she gets the "scratchies"....

Besides, is it even possible to find 'em all?

Maybe that "Frontline" stuff is your answer. Best of luck, Surreal!

I'm going for Frontline the next time around..
I hate those things. I heard the match would make the tick burrow in deeper because of burning bunn syndrome...

shave the neck? why not just a big glob of Red polish? ON the tick and the area around it?

Dunno. I'd just be worried about pulling hair out when you peel the polish. Maybe google it. This was a trick we used when I was a medic in the army.

EDIT: I just googled it and a lot of sites say DON"T do this. They say just to grab the base near the skin with tweezers and pull them out.

a nice water bath perhaps? I imagine there are lots of things you could pour on the tick to get it to let go and move...I have always heard nail polish....or heat..the match would probably work.

JP

hmm, google found this, lol http://www.betterpestcontrol.com/tick.html

Tick Removal:

The best way to remove a tick found attached to a person or pet is to firmly grasp it with a pair of tweezers as close to the skin as possible.

Pull firmly but gently backwards until the tick pulls free.

Do not touch the tick, but save it in rubbing alcohol for later identification.

Thats what I was thinking....if you throw some nail polish or rubbing alcohol on it and pull it some and mess with it with tweezers..it will probably "let go" and then you have it.....if its big and fat..set it on something like an old outdoor card table or whatever..or an old car hood.....light a match and burn its rear end..it will explode and shoot across the hood.....a tick rocket! Then again, if you want to be politically correct..wear gloves when you do it cuz they always shoot some blood....when I was a kid we didnt worry about this but now I guess it would be "incorrect" to have such a cavalier attitude, lol. And watch out for tick liberals...if they see you mistreating the tick they may press charges.

No kidding I was worried about PETA seeing this.. I'm in trouble for exposing the dog to a tick environment and tick abuse when I remove it!~

Red, only if it matches the purse and shoes My neighbor gets some pills for his pets. He says the pills work the best. Gets them from the Vet. He said the pills give the skin a slight oder or tast that fleas, ticks, and skeeters don't like. Ibabysit the dog sometimes and I don't notice any oders other than doggie smell.

Well, when you are a mean ol kid u do anything....we all did stuff as a kid we wouldnt do now....the word "squeemish" doesnt apply to kids.....I remember doing a tick rocket on the kitchen table....left a blood trail, lol....now if I see a fly swatter even near a table I freak out. (never mind that commercial where the girl licks the fly swatter (anti smoking commercial)).

We used to go play outdoors all day..come home...mom throws you in the tub..u get out and 6 ticks are floating, lol.
