For those supporting the right of US firearm owners

From a recent email:

https://www.nrahq.org/goodguys.asp

Stand Up for Freedom: Join the NRA "Good Guys" List
Unless you stand up and be counted, the Brady Campaign and the New York Times will get away with comparing honest gun owners like you to vile criminals like the Washington, D.C. snipers. Please click here (see link above) to add your name to the NRA "Good Guys" list today.

Sarah Brady and the New York Times have mounted a nationwide campaign to defeat S. 659 - the bill that would block junk lawsuits against the firearms industry.

And you won't believe how they're doing it.

You probably know that the NRA Institute for Legislative Action publishes a fact sheet containing the names of celebrities, activists, and organizations openly opposing your Second Amendment rights.

It's a service we provide to you and every other gun owner across America. You've told us you don't want to put money in the pockets of the people who are trying to abolish the Second Amendment. You've told us you don't want to buy their CDs, go to their movies, or support their careers.

And that's your right. The Constitution guarantees our freedom to associate with whomever we choose, and to speak out against those who would destroy our rights.

But that's not how the radicals over at the Brady Campaign see it. To them, it's a "blacklist." And they've launched a new fundraising web site [www.stopthenra.com] where they attack NRA members simply for exercising our right of free speech.

They've created a database of anti-gun activists - dubbed an "honor roll" - and claim to have signed up more than 10,000 people, with an ultimate goal of 25,000 to join their cause.

That anti-gun "honor roll" is getting a lot of coverage from the New York Times and the rest of the anti-Second Amendment media. In fact, NRA members are essentially being accused of McCarthyism simply for exercising our First Amendment rights!

I think that's outrageous. That's why I need you to add your name to the NRA "Good Guys" list today. It's a list of law-abiding Americans who support the Freedom of Speech and the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. [www.nrahq.org/goodguys.asp].

Please click here (see above link) to add your name to the NRA "Good Guys" list. You don't have to be an NRA member to join the list. You just have to believe in freedom.

Sincerely,

Wayne LaPierre

I'm all for the NRA...but I am also very cautious of some URL that says it is a certain site. eBay has had hundreds of website redirects built up around it in the recent 2 ~ 3 years.. who's to say this is the "real McCoy"?.

That's really low of the Brady people. I especially didn't like the cop-killing ad. Hmmmm....

I don't know about the whole list thing. The Brady website claims that the NRA has an 'anti-gun blacklist', but looking around www.nrahq.org, I see no such list. Nor do I see one on the Brady website. I will admit I didn't look very hard on either though.

The anti-gun people seem to be getting a bit desprate though. I remember reading some of the things said about not giving airline pilots guns to defend themselves agianst terrorists:

What if the pilot goes crazy and starts shooting-
Well, I dunno, but I'm pretty sure even an ameatur pilot would figure out that the little control stick at the front of the plane could kill alot more than a dinky little handgun. Heck, even a really dumb terrorist could figure that one out.

What if the terrorists were to disarm the pilot and take his gun- Well then the terrorists jack the plane and everybody dies/is held hostage. Not much different from what normally happens. Only difference is that they have to get past a gun-trained pilot who puts up a heck of alot more fight than an unarmed pilot.

What if the bullet hits the side of the plane and it depressurizes- The most legitament of the ones I've heard. But it proves these people watch too much hollywood. While a large calibur gun like a .44 or a .50 could do that, a smaller size gun (like a .22 or a .38) would just make a small hole that would slowly drain air (so it would have to be patched up or somthing). I dunno though, not an expert on what happens when someone shots on an airplane, but I highly doubt you would get the major blowouts you see in Hollywood movies.

Ah, enough tangents.

Too tired to think of anything else to say. Perhaps tomorrow.

In my opinion, if sufficient people rally against the NRA, maybe it will go the way of the Tobacco and Asbestos Industries.

These institutions are unnecessary in human society.

I don't want to crap on Dave's thread here, but the asbestos industry issue was a tad overblown. Unlike cigarettes, asbestos can be made safe and there is no decent substitute for it. Maybe fodder for another thread?

And now back to your regularly scheduled topic.

IMO, if enough people rallied against liberals, maybe they will go the way of the dinosaurs.

Added my name to the list, thanks for putting this up dave!
