Kids Sporting events going overtime

Is it just me or are sporting events considered prime time must see TV viewing?

I'm asking this because I was going to watch a show tonight on a certain channel but the baseball game, on the same channel, is in extra innings now or has been for the past hour and I missed it. Kinda upset about that.

I guess I'm wondering about the time alotted to each sport whether it be football, baseball, basketball etc. Usually when the "game" goes into overtime the networks will air the game until it ends and preempt the following program either joining it in progress or not showing it at all.

It kinda gets me sometimes when I want to watch or tape something and I get a sporting event instead which I didn't want to see in the first place.

I was getting all hyped up to watch a new episode of Enterprise and have to sit through the end of a friggin' baseball game and then it doesn't get aired... BAH

Just a side thought that I think would be funny to the watchers of ... let's say baseball... bottom of the ninth.. score 3 to 2.. a runner on second.. last out.. here's the pitch and the batter swings... it's going.. GOING... ppssstt "Next on Matlock.. Matlock will deceide the fate of....." Times up!!!

As you can tell by this I don't watch alot of sports on TV.. Never have and never will.

Anyway just my thoughts

We had the Bathurst Touring Car race here a few weekends back. Coverage starts at 6.30 am and goes through to the end of the race (scheduled for 5.30 pm). Well, the race went over by a couple of hours, and they kept televising it. We got no news orweather until two hours late, and the prime time Sunday night movie was delayed by three hours.

I can also recall when an important World Cup soccer game went into overtime, and they decided to go to the news instead. Missed live broadcasting of one of the most crucial match outcomes in the tournament. They got a lot of really nasty hate mail and stuff about that.

Sport important to TV broadcasters? It looks like it is.

Cheers
Mick

I imagone the ratings are a bit higher for the series than for the enterprise.

Not by much Gomer. I think the only people watching it are Marlins and Yankees fans.....the ratings aren't all that great this year. I guess no one wants to watch the Yankees win yet another one. Just throw in a tape from a previous year and watch that game at your convenience.

I don't think that's true RedFury. I know quite a few people that don't like the Marlins or Yankees, just the fact that baseball fans watch it anyway.

So far it has been a very good, classy, and competitive series.

As far as ratings this year....
Ratings are up
