This piece was written by young American on the ground in Iraq. Despite his status as a soldier, he's shedding light on the good things that his fellow soldiers are making happen, rather than reporting on what the rest of the world would expect from someone like him.

You see them as "invaders", even after a small group of them provide drinking water to a village using parts that were just laying around, and after their own government had promised them the very same for 33 years.

Go ahead and shake your fingers at them; Those bastards! Shame on them for leaving their own homes and families to bring water to this little village in the middle of a God-forsaken desert!!!

You all enjoy your time sitting in front of your computers, and hope you don't find yourself in their situation. If you were required to do so, I'd be willing to bet those Iraqis would go without drinking water for another 33 years.

I will not post here my opinions on this war as a whole, because I really cannot. But neither will I set by while you put down a small group of Americans over there who are doing good things for other human beings. It is what it is folks.....don't make more of it than what it really is.

Confucious say, if one man may drink a glass of water, one hundred men may wet their lips.

Man with holes in shoes have feet on ground.

Thud,

We ALL have the same home, this planet on which we all live.

Buddy (IC), You are right but that is a bit of an oversimplification. Perhaps Earth houses all humanity. But there is a wide range of homes. So if you are talking about greenhouse effect or Ozone layer you can talk about all of us. But if you are talking about war, starvation, poverty you will have to localize your definition of home to those folks.

Come on people that IS something new!

i actually laid a waterline once, in the military, to a small village in africa... the pipe we used was pipe, it would carry water, it would be illegal however to use it in the states as it would cause lead poisoning...

The laws on the use of lead piping for the provision of drinking water have changed in most places these days, especially with the advzent of plastic piping.

Nevertheless it was a highly commendable thing for you to do, and shows the Military in its best role, that of peacekeeper and helper to people who are in need of help.

As long as Government financing pays people like you to fulfill this role then we can continue to help people who need our help and it can all be done in an atmosphere of friendly co-operation brotherhood and cameraderie.

From Conflict to Peace.

Brothers, and Sisters, in Arms to Partners in Peace.

Partners in Love too, I hope.

sao95,

Wouldn't it have been cheaper and healthier to use plastic?

What year did you lay the lead pipe and do you have a linky.

I will say this about lead pipe. Water is way more important than a possibility of traces of lead in water. If this was a temporary solution or using materials available locally. did we import the tons of lead pipe from military warehouses?
