It doesn't work in Chinese because that language is 1 symbol = 1 word. You can't just replace 1 part of the symbol like you can do in english words. Change the symbol and the word is completely different .


Spelling is not important for casual stuff but it's very important with technical things. If I'm doing some sort of chemistry report and in my write up I put 'ethene' instead of 'ethane', that isn't just a little woops; that completely changes the meaning of the report.
