Help me get a job
I have to choose a college, and thus choose a major. Life sucks right now.
I want to make a lot of money. Sounds conceded, but it's a very personal goal to me to make over $100,000 a year. I can't really find any places where you can see what a person does in their occupation, how much they get paid, or (what would be really cool) a personal review of the +'s and -'s of their job. Anyway, back to crappy reality, where such things don't exist. (or i can't find)
In a last-ditch effort, I thought some people in this forum would be able to help me out. I mean, a lot of you people know computers well, and I figured SOME of you have to have computer jobs.
I know this is relying alot of you guys, but these are some of the things I am good at:
Math (plain good at it)
Science (find it interesting)
Electronics (buidling circuits)
Computer Hardware (Constructing whole computers)
Software (great at all windows, bad @ mac, lost in Linux)
Helping ppl (great at tech support)
EDIT: In my first year of Cisco and top of class.
EDIT: Great at drafting
Considering I have these abilities, what jobs utilize them, and what majors would i consider if I was to choose these jobs?
If someone actually takes the time to respond them... thx!

1. You will NOT make over 100k for a good number of years, accept it
2. If you make 100k a year and completely miserable because you loathe your job its not worth it. Do what you enjoy doing, you'll be much happier.
To be a windows admin and make over 100k you'll have to be in the field a long long time and be VERY good at other things like networking (tcp/ip connectiivty stuff)
Software if you want to get into programming, you'll have to get into the heavier languages like C/C++ especially if you can get into the security field. If you're REALLY AWESOME at math maybe get into the encryption security area you could do well.
Definately a hot field these days, but be aware its still a niche job so its not like there's a billion jobs out there for it.

$$ is the root of all evil and not the path to happiness.
Anyway, look into engineering.

Yup, sure is.
THe other day I could've sworn I one $1mil through McDonalds monopoly (seriously, I thought I won but I was seeing things)...immediately I'm thinking I don't even want the $$$, I'll give it away...then I called up my dad on my cell thinking I won the money, look @ the piece again and it says "Park Place" and not "Boardwalk" (already had PP piece) ...I'm like, whatever...I didn't really give a crap. I don't want $$$ - money makes people change, typically for the worse. But you go for it because I know nothing people say here will make a difference. Good luck

Pharmacists are in high demand and make great bucks. Heavy on the chemistry, though.

Perhaps you would enjoy writing or journalism, especially since you have expressed interest in helping people through a public relations environment (tech support). I am a freelance technical writer by trade, or something like that...

I will not discuss pay, though I can say it has wildly fluctuated over the years. Also, have you had the fun experience of paying your own Social Security taxes? If you have, you will readily understand my negatives.
Now let's examine a comparison of our situations. I have AS degrees in Mathematics and Scientific Application Development. I have extensive knowledge of x86 hardware architectures and theorectical technologies relating to semiconductor design and fabrication.
What has this knowledge done to further my career? Little, if anything, so I will echo Pickel's sentiments on this discussion. You might want to add a porn section to the movie rental store to maximize profits.

Math huh? Actuarial Science & Mathematics Major Back in '89 there were only 26 colleges in the country offering it as a degree. What you do is figure up probabilities for insurance companies. You have to take 10 tests, 4 during college, to get the certification for it. Once ya complete the 10th one, 6 years out of college, ya will be making a 100 grand. Very math intensive.
Oooooh yeah only 1 in 3 pass each test
