Moving

I'm currently packing my stuff because I'm moving next Saturday.

I will finally have broadband after 8 years on dialup.

While I was admiring the massive amount of stacked boxes, I was wondering what would break during the transport.

How many times have you moved your stuff and what did you break during this ?

I haven't moved in 18 years. Before that, it was pretty much every two years or so for 20 years.

Fortunately, books don't break easily.

I've had movers break the legs of sofas and tables. A few glass lamp shades. Amazingly, not much else. That's because I packed the stuff myself. Leave it to the movers to pack and you'll get what you deserve...

The only thing I can remeber breaking was our deep freezer, the BIG kind. After we got settled , I plugged it into the receptical and the motor ( compressor ) powered up, then a tremendous cloud of smoke came out from the bottom compartment with the sound of a locomotive going into reverse !!!!

I always have to move myself. In a van. But I really haven't broken much (nothing I can think of) and I've been coast to coast about 4 times in as many years. Geeze I'm glad to not ever have to move again!

before three years ago i averaged 2 moves a year, across states... nothing ever broke except my painting got damaged...

My last move was in 1970. Texas to where i am now. I packed my own stuff and shipped it ahead, then rode my motorcycle cross
country. Being a military brat. I moved several times. A set of dishes were wiped out. A washing machine had one side caved in. That's all I can recall.
