velux suntunnel skylight

i just got finished installing two of these in two bathrooms at a friends house.

neither bathroom has a window. i was really suprised how much light these actually let in. very good looking, too.instructions were understandable, thats always a plus

(click on the sun tunnel link at the site.)

tho the instructions say you can do it in two hours,i took around twice that long. maybe after installing a few more,i would be able to get the time down to a couple of hours.

Excellent...I always liked skylights...probably install some when I own a house of my own.

(Basically), you cut a hole, made a new frame, installed and sealed up window...?

has it rained yet?!
What does it use to seal around the hole?

I would imagine he used any variety of adhesive foam window sealants and various amounts of caulk to make a watertight connection.

Knowing every square inch of Home Depot has it's benefits

http://doityourself.com/skylights/installation.htm

see illustration no.5 and step 15 for how the light gets waterproofed. these are almost the exact instructions for the lights i installed. i used massive amounts of roofing cement between the roofing i reinstalled and the flashing around the light.

edit: those ARE the instructions from the first one i installed. "courtesy of suntunnel skylights"

I just bought $905 of skylights, 2 Velux
22x46" venting and one 12" round Gordon

The Velux came in dented, Home Depot.com won't discount them, I must return,, I'm gonna tell them to take the whole order back and go "in-store" to Lowes and order in person
