Spectacular Michigan

I just returned from a couple weeks in northern Michigan. What a great place in the fall. We stayed on Mackinac island in the great lakes. I just loved the sunsets. Plus they don't allow cars on the island. Just horses and bicycles.
A great 2-3 day trip I would recommend.

The fall colors peaked here last weekend. The colors were pretty vibrant this year.

We stayed at a place called the Iroquois. The Grand hotel wanted $10.00 just to walk on the porch. There is actually a sign there that says that after 6 pm, men must wear a tie and women must wear dresses. There is no way I want to be part of that. We just like being on island time. (watch out for the crazy drunk bike riders at 2 am.)

I have some pics, I will post them when I can.

I spent a lot of time near D.C., in my youth visiting cousins. It is not too bad a place to be sentenced to. I like the roads out in Virginia. That is where I leaned to drive.

BTW, good prices at Mackinac in fall. Sounds like you need a break.

Our colors are peaking right now, although rain has brought down a lot of leaves.

Time to get out the rake.

It's funny you should mention that. I called ahead to the hotel, and they said 30% chance of snow during our stay. So, we packed accordingly. It was 72 degrees the whole time. We stayed in Traverse City for a few days, and stopped at the local mall to buy T-shirts and shorts.
On sale of course.

Ohhhhh... I love Macinac Island... we go every year for.

We like to stay at the Lakeview Hotel... it's a wonderful place to just relax!

I have some pictures from our trip last August... I will post them in the gallery today.

I was just there in August, absolutly beautiful. I would like to go there during the color peak sometime. I try to go at least once a year with the kids, they like seeing all the horses.

I have never stayed on the island overnight, I am only a two hour or so drive away anyway. But I am thinking about spendng a week on the island with the kids next summer.

I was there in August as well. I spent a week up in Brimley. Hit the Island, Pictured Rocks, Whitefish Point, Shipwreck Museum, Point Iraquoi, and the Locks. Feel like I barely scratched the surface.

I have been wanting to get up there this fall, but work is kicking my tail and vacation is not being granted at the moment =(
