Since the Iraq war began in March, 335 U.S. troops have been killed -- 215 by hostile fire -- including the overnight casualties in Karbala. Of those, 196 U.S. troops have died -- 100 by hostile fire -- since President Bush declared an end to major combat in Iraq in May.

Just because the official war is over, doesn't mean that there is not going to be any resistance, when Bush made his speech he simply meant the official invasion was over and that Iraq was under US military control, he never meant that the resistance was over, and he deliberately did not go into detail, like all politicians, so that if anything goes wrong they can always come back and say "See? I never said [blabla], I meant [blabla]".

What he meant was, "The war is over, but the war is not over".

Imagine how absolutely horrible that would look to just "pull out" and freakin abandon everything we've fought for thus far. Abandon the Iraqis whom we "liberated"...that concept goes FAR beyond simply saving the lives of the soldiers...you guys think the US looks bad now? Imagine if we pussed out in Iraq like several other conflicts

The problem is he lied to the soldiers and to the people making them think it was a piece of cake and they should be home soon...

They had no plan whatsoever for the afterwar.

I think its OK to look bad but save further soldiers from dying. Even if one GI is saved its worth it.

You can't compare. Hitler was actually a threat to the world.

Saddam's threat to a large extent seems to have been made up by President Bush and his Administation for unknown reasons.
