General Boykin's jihad... errh, crusade... errh...
Quote:
Lieutenant-General William "Jerry" Boykin, the new deputy under-secretary of defence for intelligence, is a decorated and twice-wounded veteran of covert operations. From the 1993 fight with warlords in Somalia and the hunt for Columbian drug tsar Pablo Escobar to the ill-fated attempt to rescue American hostages in Iran in 1980, General Boykin was in the thick of things.

Yet, the former commander and 13-year veteran of the US Army's top-secret Delta Force is an outspoken evangelical Christian who appeared in uniform before a religious group in Oregon in June to declare that radical Islamists hate the US "because we're a Christian nation, because our foundation and our roots are Judeo-Christians. And the enemy is a guy named Satan."

Discussing the battle against a Muslim warlord in Somalia, General Boykin told another audience: "I knew my god was bigger than his. I knew that my god was a real god and his was an idol."

General Boykin has said of President George Bush: "He's in the White House because God put him there."
Here's Jeff Danziger's take:

He's coming under a lot of fire for saying that.

My question is, why? Is he not allowed to be public about his beliefs?

I don't share his views, but he still has the right to express them, no matter what his position.

Well, like they say "There's no athiests in foxholes!" The General has been there, done that!

BTW: I don't think the Muslims have a "hell" do they?

I know when the guys blow up people and get killed they get 79 virgins. The gals get 79 Chippendales. Suicide is against Muslim law unless you take innocent people with you, correct? Since we can't blame "Satan the Anti-God", who is left?

I think the General used the word "Satan" as shorthand for about 50 people who are in our government's bulls eye. I mean, after all we are referred to as the "Great Satan", so why can't he speak in the same loose meanings? As far as his view of God, it's his right. Whether or not he should have worn his uniform or not, depends on his superiors interpretation of the rule book.

I don't think he should be criticized for his views as a PERSON.

I think the problem is, his views could bias his representation of "intelliegence" gathered.

Its ok for him to feel this way, the concern is that this is a 3 star general that speaks directly to the president and is certain to be asked on matters of attacking or defending countries during a crisis

would he be willing to attack a "good christian" country, even if they show threats? Probably not as fast as he'd jump on a muslim "satan" country.
I mean why not.. their god is smaller

People like him is why I avoid religion like the plague
Its one thing to be a member of a religion.. its when people start pulling the holier than thou BS that ticks me off.

A 3 star general with god size envy

It is no worse than what USA-hating Muslim leaders say. True. But isn't any better either. And I'd prefer that we were better than them.
