Recommended reading: Blackhawk Down
I just finished the book Blackhawk Down . It was recommended to me by some people I am serving with in Montgomery, AL. It was an excellent book that detailed the story of the final battle in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993. It was the largest firefight involving US troops since Vietnam. It was a largely forgotten interdiction by US forces under the Clinton administration. At times it was a difficult book to read because of the way our soldiers were treated and killed, but overall the book was impossible to put down. It is a story that everyone should know about. I recommend that everyone grab a copy and read it. It is only about 400 pages and it took me a short time to finish the superbly told story which reads like fiction (because it was so interesting). Be sure to read the epiloge and afterward. I was about to skip them like I usually do, but they were integral in understanding the implications of this story. It was the first book I have read about miltary history and I hope the others that follow will be as interesting.
