Hmmm... didn't know this was going on elsewhere. Here in St Louis the grocery workers at all three major chains have been out since last Tuesday.
And they're getting widespread support - the chains are down to being open 10 hrs daily or less instead of 24, and they did little business even over the weekend! The media started out putting a negative "spin" on the strike, but now that public opinion has taken the worker's side, the news sure seems slanted differently...
No big deal, there are LOTS of small grocery stores around -
there's simply no way crossing a line is an option. Quote:
They have no support from me. They're complaining that the stores want them to pay $750 @ year for their medical insurance while they pay nada now. They say the stores are trying to rip them off. Stores cave in..... prices go up. They're making $17.90 @ hour. Give me a break.
I pay thru my employer @ $3400 @ year for my insurance and that's for good coverage.

Bill, instead of their standard being lowered, why not hammer on your employer for
not paying this benefit??
Personally, I don't think ANYONE should make "concessions" on health benefits - if you give an employer a little, they want more & more. Or rather, they'll provide less & less in benefits. This lowers the standard for
everyone!
A common attitude today seems to be "I don't get that, why should you?"
Problem is that if they give something up, it just makes it that much more difficult for others to gain it.
Much more correct attitude is "They're getting something we aren't, why aren't we????"
Especially if you feel your job has a higher skill level - just why WOULD you work for less than a low skilled job pays???
