Environmental poll

I contend that population is a more controllable method for environmental control than any international agreement or proposed efficiency standard.

Population is at 6 billion now with more than 3 billion living in terrible conditions. Any attempt to bring up the standard of living for people living below the poverty line will result in more environmental impact.

With historical population increases the 6 billion will likely produce 9 to 12 billion by the year 2050.

Leaving conditions and birth rates as they are that means 5 to 6 billion people living below the poverty line.

Something is kinda sick about this.

Perhaps if you could back up your ideas with some sources?

You missed a few other choices. For example, some would contend that population is self-limiting. Some would say we're just evolving along with the rest of the world and this is just part of our evolutionary course (out-stripping the planet's resources).

My option:

No population control and extreme (educated) conservation.

Eventually man will be able to make water, oil, air, and other natural resources, so I dont think resources are a big deal, but I would like to see the air cleaner. Cars are clean already, but think about smoking cigarettes. That's a lot of carbon monoxide they are giving off and ruining the ozone. Only if people would quit smoking....

Ozone is destroyed by CFC's, not carbon monoxide.

Cars in highly developed coutries (which are the ones being blamed for all of the world's polution ) are extremely clean. It's the cars in "3rd world" countries are the bigger problem. Most of the cars in countries like Mexico, Taiwan, India, Malasia (to name a few) aren't polution control equiped, and many are running two-stroke engines, which create tons of polution.

extreme population control is my solution. no more than two children per couple, and dont forget your condoms/birth control pills!

im not sure how to really reinforce this other than killing the kid....but thats not a very good solution. but i serisouly think that some form of population control is needed.

thank goodness ill be dead by the time the earth is all crappy and over populated....it will be the kids problems then

Obviously, a little chemistry education couldn't hurt, either.
