i just watched the launch, talk about saying hello to corporate america. microsoft, roxio, samsung, and gateway are all in on this.

Well, if you the link so much, I could just load a new banner ad on every page instead.

Now to my real point. Are you not tiring of corporate music?

Re-branding Napster is a failed attempt to address the real problem in the music industry, namely the corporate greed driving the current wave of pop-oriented trash onto the airwaves, mass music store albums, and popular media outlets like MTV and VH1.

"System Requirements:
PC only, Windows XP/2000, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher, Windows Media Player 7.1 or higher, Internet connectivity"

WMP is used to enforce Digital Rights Management, thus restricting your use of the downloaded files.

if you watch the launch, they built the whole thing with wmp 9. it was made to be easily connected with windows media edition.

i am, i agree to an extent with your statement.
how can you say it has failed when it hasn't even been released yet, and no one (you not excluded) has tried it yet.

500,000 titles, going well past 1980, means that it isnt just pop music.

as far as i can tell:

1. lowered prices
2. easy to use
3. HUGE library
4. you can burn to CD
5. LEGAL

sounds good to me. a tempory fix anyway

I found something that leaves me wondering about this service.

"At the public presentation, Napster executives made no mention of usage rules but a company spokesperson told internetnews.com that members opting for the $9.95 per month plan would only be allowed to transfer files to three PCs. Once a paid subscription ends, downloaded songs would no longer be available for listening.

http://www.internetnews.com/ec-news/article.php/3089461

While an official source for this information hasn't been named, this would be a rip-off if it was true.

The digital rights management is a whole lotta BULL..
by using software like TotalRecorder u can internally rip any music playin on ur comp. directly (digitally) to a non DRM clean mp3 file..
Just make sure to rip it b4 the expiry date :-)
